A heaven for the soul
To chat with someone or follow the silent thread of memory, to take slow walks and relax till late, or else to awaken early to see what new thing has grown in the fields, to read in the shadow of the oak, to play with children (...we never do it enough!) to enjoy the setting sun with a glass of wine in hand. Help me to make bread and focaccia or come with me to discover places with a hint of mystery: perhaps to discover the butterfly of San Lorenzo in the fullness of the summer solstice; or perhaps prepare the bonfire of Saint Anthony on June 12 and celebrate as they do in Lisbon with the incredible taste of charcoal cooked anchovies. We can do many things together, but let me say to you one more time: at least for a moment let us live without responsibilities!
It was an ancient share cropping farm of 1600, totally renovated in 2005.
Today it comprises 25 magnificent acres of land and woods. I was moved during the renovations to discover traces of a history made by a people at once simple and proud. Once upon a time all those rules and regulations that often make life complicated did not exist. Thus from a love story a House was born comprised of a barn and a kitchen on the ground floor, and a bedroom with storeroom on the first floor.
Then the children were born: some left never to return; others, especially the women, followed full of hope their own love story. A few remained, and thus the House was enlarged, or better, lengthened, because
climbing stairs was very difficult. The family used to go with a wagon to gather stones, sometimes taking them from the ancient Roman Via Aurelia that passes close by, and an addition to the House took shape......
I know that many of you wish to visit the Cinque Terre. Well, this is the ideal place. We are 6 km from the La Spezia RR Station and the train is the best means of reaching the Cinque Terre (it takes 8 minutes to Riomaggiore and the Via dell'Amore (Lovers Lane). We are also 7 km from the embarkation point of the passenger boats that in the summer visit all the towns along the Gulf of Poets and the Cinque Terre.
For those who love to walk, path no. 1 of the Cinque Terre begins at our door. The city bus stop is 1500 feet from our House and the La Spezia RR Station only minutes away (busses run every 40-50 minutes).
